Warm Winds takes a new approach to teaching kids how to surf – introducing the lifestyle and sport of surfing through fun and knowledge based phases. Not only do we teach surfing, we also have daily themes that teach safety, basics of surfing, surf etiquette, equipment knowledge, and oceanography/coastal preservation. Our goal is to give campers a unique and educational experience that they will remember forever!!
Camper safety is extremely important to us at Warm Winds, therefore we always have a student to instructor ratio of 5:1 max. This way campers get the attention they need to maximize safety and surf coaching.
Our team of qualified surf instructors has a combined experience of over 40 years. They live to surf and are true ambassadors of the lifestyle. Every instructor is certified in both CPR and First Response. There will also be active lifeguards on duty at the Town Beach between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
We ask that all surf campers are over the age of 6 years old and have the ability to swim on their own. There is no upper age restriction. The usual age range in our surf camps is between 6 and 13 years old.
Warm Winds will provide all gear required for surfing, including surfboards, rashguards, wax, and wetsuits (if necessary). All surf campers should bring the following packed in a backpack that is easy to carry:
→ Lunch → Plenty of water
→ Sunscreen → Sunglasses
→ Towel → Shoes/Sandals
→ Sweatshirt → Hat for sun protection
→ Backpack → Raincoat if poor weather
Feel free to bring your own wetsuits to camp, however we do not allow campers to bring their own surfboards. At surf camp we use a fleet of soft top surfboards that are both safe and fun for everyone to use.
Feel free to give us a call anytime during normal business hours to register for camps at (401)789-9040. Our friendly staff will be more than happy to assist you with registering and field any questions you may have about the program.
We ask that all surf campers get dropped off at our surf truck located in the corner of the South Lot @ Narragansett Town Beach at 9:30 am sharp. From here campers will be directed to our surf tent down on the sand where bags and lunches can be dropped off and we can get ready for the day. Note: Please arrive 10-15 minutes early on the first day of camp on Monday morning.
Since surfing is primarily a “wet” sport, we typically remain at the beach during rainstorms, unless thunderstorms or heavy wind/dangerous conditions occur. Therefore, it is important for campers to have something warm and dry to put on — pack a sweatshirt and a raincoat. If the weather is really bad and the conditions don’t allow for camp to run, we will cancel the day and use Friday as a make up day. We typically make the call to the parents around 8:30-8:45 am in the event of a cancellation.
All cancellations and rescheduling must be made at-least 1 week prior to the start of camp. Any cancellations made within 7 days to 72-hours prior to the start of camp will only be eligible for a partial refund (50%). If rescheduling within this time window, a rescheduling fee of $75 will be assessed. Cancellations within 72-hours of the start of camp will incur the full charge of the camp, no refunds or rescheduling.
