Meet the Spun Honey by Dan Mann and Firewire—a short, compact groveler designed to be the "nectar of creation" for everyday, small-wave surfing.

Positioned right between the ultra-groveler Sweet Potato and the more performance-oriented Dominator 2, the Spun Honey is built for surfers who want top-end, down-the-line speed without sacrificing the ability to surf tight in the pocket.

It’s the ultimate keep in the car board: the one to bring along whenever you’re checking the waves whether the forecast shows 1-2’ or 3-4’.

The Shape

The Spun Honey borrows some DNA from the Baked Potato and Spitfire but pulls the outline in slightly for a more refined look and feel.

Up front, it features a bullet nose with low entry rocker to make paddling and catching waves incredibly easy.

The defining feature in the back is the baby diamond tail. Because the board has such a wide planing area, this diamond tail creates a singular pivot point, directing water smoothly and driving off the bottom without sliding out.

To hide its high volume, Dan Mann utilized a stepped, flat deck.

This keeps a ton of foam distributed through the center of the board (under your feet), while allowing the rails to remain foiled, bladey, and sensitive—giving you the feeling of a high-performance shortboard when you put it on rail.

The Bottom

Under the hood, the Spun Honey features a radical bottom contour: deep double barrels set within a large single concave.

As water is drawn through the lower entry rocker, it channels directly through these deep double barrels and feeds straight into the fins.

This spiral vee setup running through the middle helps the board seamlessly roll from rail to rail, letting you skate over dead sections and turn aggressively in tight pockets

Wave Type

The Spun Honey is truly a small-wave weapon.

Highly user-friendly with a giant sweet spot, thriving in soft, gutless beach breaks where ideally the board can help you generate your own speed.

On the other end of the spectrum, thanks to its performance-oriented rails and tail, it can easily handle nuggety, fun waves all the way up to head-high or so.

Fin Setup

While thruster fans can absolutely run it with three fins, Dan Mann highly recommends riding the Spun Honey as a Quad (like most of his small wave models.

  • The Setup: A quad setup places the main power source on your larger front fins, with the trailing fins adding crucial drive and lift without getting in the way.
  • The Fins: Start with your favorite go-to quad set. If you want it dialed exactly how it was intended, look for the specific Spun Honey fin template (available in-store!) designed with a wide base, a narrow tip, and a little rake to provide a low-profile, drivey, and fast down-the-line feel
