Surf Lesson Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Warm Winds teaches surf lessons at Narragansett Town Beach in Narragansett, RI. We park our lesson truck in the south lot at the beach - and that is where you will meet your instructor prior to the lesson. You can't miss us, just look for the colorful surf truck!!
To ensure that you do not miss any time in your lesson, please show up at least 10 minutes early to get started with the paperwork and getting your equipment ready. Since our lesson schedule is typically booked solid thru the summer months, we cannot extend the lesson if you show up late.
Just bring yourself, a towel, sunscreen, and some water. We'll provide everything else that you need
To keep our pricing competitive and not raise our prices, we do not offer discounts on lessons if you book more than one. We do, however, offer discounts with group lessons, depending on the number of participants.
There are restrooms and changing rooms located both in the South Pavilion at town beach as well as the North Pavilion
Surfing requires the use of a lot of muscles that you may not normally use in your typical day to day. For that reason we encourage folks to stretch prior to coming down for your lesson to prevent injury. Swimming, pushups, and rowing are also some great ways to warm up for surfing in addition to yoga.

Yes! Gratuity is not included in surf lesson prices, and is recommended if you were stoked on your surf lesson. Your instructor will be stoked!
The water temperature in Rhode Island fluctuates quite a bit in the summer months. In June and early July, you will most likely still opt to wear a wetsuit (which we will provide). This of course is subject to each individuals tolerance to cold water.
Absolutely. If you have your own wetsuit or surfboard that you want to get practice on - feel free to bring it with you. Just let the instructor know when you show up so they can plan accordingly. For Surf Camp we can not allow participants to bring their own equipment.
For sure! After having a surf lesson you should have enough knowledge to go back out there on your own and continue to practice, and we definitely recommend it while the information is fresh! We offer discounts on rental fees after your lesson.
There's nothing better than a fresh acai bowl from Cool Beans Cafe after a solid surf session. Cool Beans is located next door to Warm Winds retail location. There's also a really good sandwich place right next door called Picnic Basket. Looking for a sit down lunch? You can't beat the food at Crazy Burger Cafe on Boon Street, or Bike Stop cafe right around the corner. Plenty of good food options in Narragansett Pier!
Unfortunately we cannot grant beach access with your surf lesson. If you do not have a beach pass, they can be purchased at a town beach kiosk located directly in front of our surf truck.
CANCELLATION POLICY + PAYMENTS
All surf lessons require payment in full at the time of booking. No exceptions.
Should the conditions be unfavorable on the day of your lesson, the instructor (at his or her sole discretion) may choose to reschedule the lesson.
All cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the starting time of your lesson to receive a full refund.
Changes made inside of the 48 hour window but prior to the 24 hour mark will receive a store credit to Warm Winds in the full amount of the lesson. The credit can then be used to book another lesson or for any in-store purchase.
Same-day cancelations and/or No-shows will incur the full charge of the lesson and will not be eligible to reschedule. No exceptions will be made.
All confirmations must be confirmed with Warm Winds Surf Shop staff. Last minute emails will not be accepted as a valid confirmation.
Lesson packages must be used in full during the current summer surf lesson season. They will not roll over year after year.
No cash or store credit refunds will be given for unused lesson packages.

Individual Private Lessons
Want to benefit from a more individualized lesson? Learn more personalized skill sets? Have small child who would need more attention? Warms Winds offers private lessons with our highly skilled instructors. Call the shop or stop by to book the lesson.
Private lessons have a 1:1 ratio with our highly trained and skilled instructors. The lessons last over an hour and include a land warm up lesson, all the basic skills needed to get on the wave, and a beach cool down and review.
Private Group Lessons
Have a whole family or group of friends interested in learning to surf together? Our Family and Friends package is perfect for Birthday parties, Bachelor/Bachelorette parties, Graduations, Family reunions, and more! Well gear up your whole group and head into the surf. Warm Winds offers a family and friends package that provides discounts for each additional person joining this semi-private lesson. Give the shop a ring to book the date and time of the lesson.
The lesson lasts over an hour and includes land practice and technique, a basic surf course, as well as a beach cool down and review. Learn skills like paddling in, popping up, and enjoy riding the waves with your family and friends!
Also, dont forget to continue the fun after the lesson with the 20% discount on all rentals after the lesson!
Large Groups, Organizations, and Events
We love having large groups enjoy the beach day with us! If your group is larger than 6, give the shop a ring and well find a lesson package that works for you and your group.
Rentals
All done with lessons? Ready to go out on your own? Warm Winds rents all of the equipment necessary to have a great time. We have a full size range of surfboards and stand-up paddleboards to fit your specific needs. Gettin chilly? Need a wetsuit? We rent them in both children and adult sizes. Boogie boards and skim boards? Got ‘em too!
We rent surfboards, stand-up paddle boards, skim, and boogies at the Warm Winds Surf Truck located in the south parking lot of Narragansett Beach. There is a variety of sizes to choose from that fit all experience levels. Boards from the surf truck can be rented for 2 hour, 4 hours, and full day increments.
*Renters are responsible for any dings, damage or loss of rented equipment. We dont sweat the small stuff when it comes to damage. Nonetheless, we will go over the condition of the board with you prior to rental and once again upon return. If there is any serious damage, repair costs will be assessed. The cost for dings starts at $40 depending on damage. Full replacement cost is required for broken boards. Center long board fin replacement is $25. Thruster set replacement is $35.
